For first time yoga practitioners, we recommend following the class progression:

Beginner's Yoga or Restorative Yoga
Beginner’s Yoga serves new students and current practitioners alike with a safe, non-competitive environment. Our most experienced teachers will guide you through basic postures and breathing techniques. Your personal needs and goals are our priority. This class gives you the confidence and experience you need to enjoy all the styles and levels offered at Prana Yoga Center.

Restorative Yoga offers the amazing benefits of yoga by using ease rather than effort. Perfect for healing and rejuvenating, and releasing psychic tension. Anyone can benefit from Restorative Yoga no matter what level of activity you are accustomed to and no matter what your experience is with yoga. Postures are practiced with supportive props such as, blankets, bolsters, blocks, and straps aid the ease in your effort.

Note: It is our policy that expecting mothers may attend only prenatal yoga classes. This is for the safety of mom and baby!

Beginner's Yoga

Our Beginner’s Yoga class serves new students and current practitioners alike. Welcome to this safe, non-competitive environment: whether you seek a first introduction to yoga or a reconnection with its foundations. Our most experienced teachers will guide you through basic postures and breathing techniques. Your personal needs and goals are our priority. Come as much as you like! This class gives you the confidence and experience you need to enjoy all the styles and levels offered at Prana Yoga Center.

Breast Cancer Care Yoga (FREE)

Empowerment Yoga for Breast Cancer Care consists of gentle movement, yoga poses (specially modified for breast cancer clients), breathwork, and meditation ​for all phases of treatment​​. This class includes some group discussion, so that you may help one another through sharing.

Requirements

Before Class

  1. This class is on a drop-in basis and does not require pre-registration.
  2. Come 20 minutes before class if you need to fill out some required forms (health history and waiver).
  3. These are gentle classes. All you need is the ability to get up and down from the floor.

After class

We require a confidential health history form and medical doctor release

ChildBlossom Pre-teen Yoga (Ages 7-12 years)

Building Strength, Confidence, and Self- Esteem

Join this calming, empowering, developmental yoga class specifically for pre-teens. A fun and non-competitive class, pre-teens can express themselves freely without peer pressure or judgment. Students participate in postures, breathing techniques, guided imagery, and games. Prana Yoga Center has designed this class to develop confidence, balance, emotional regulation, attention, and creativity while promoting relaxation and mindfulness. These tools offer valuable support throughout the pre-teen years. Students develop a sense of individuality through a strong mind and body connection.

Forrest Yoga - Infrared Heat

Forrest Yoga offers a rigorous physical challenge supported by deep internal focus. It emphasizes how to transfer your lessons on the mat into daily life. Engage your body’s core strength, alignment, and breath with precision. This class provides both mental and physical release while enriching your self-knowledge. Forrest Yoga is founded on four pillars: breath, strength, integrity, and spirit.

No experience is needed. Just bring along your willingness to learn with a touch of self-honesty. Our Infrared heated studio stays at 80 – 85 degrees: a therapeutic grade heat that provides improved flexibility, promotes relaxation, and delivers relief from minor aches and pains. ​This class is appropriate for students of all levels who want a challenge.

Gentle Hatha Yoga - Infrared Heat

Gentle Hatha Yoga focuses on rejuvenating the body and mind. This class uses simple postures, and focuses on breathing and relaxation. Rooted in classical Hatha yoga, Gentle Yoga stretches and strengthens the body while cultivating a balanced, steady mind. Props include straps, blocks, blankets and chairs to support and deepen the experience.
This class is perfect for you at any level of your practice, and for those who are seeking to rejuvenate.

Try it in infrared heat

Hatha practiced in our infrared heated studio at 78 degrees provides improved flexibility, and relief from minor aches and pains all while promoting relaxation.

Hatha Yoga with Wall Ropes

Refresh your yoga practice with something different. The use of wall ropes to practice Hatha Yoga poses mends the body like a visit to a chiropractor or physical therapist. Decompress the spine and gently return the body to a healthy alignment. This class is certainly for all levels, in fact, we suggest all students come to restorative, healing classes such as Hatha Yoga with Wall Ropes. Our journey towards self-care is endless, just like our journey towards the state of yoga.

Kundalini Yoga

Movement, breath, sound, and meditation relax and strengthen the mind and body. Improve your body’s endurance, flexibility, and strength through this potent form of yoga. Kundalini helps you access areas normally hidden from day-to-day consciousness. Return to true harmony and discover that the person you wish to be is already inside you. Mindful Meditation (FREE)

Join Bhante Sujatha for a guided, insight-meditation practice. Bhante Sujatha, a Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka, serves the meditation needs of the western suburbs of Chicago. The class is appropriate for beginners as well as experienced meditators. Experience is not necessary.

Prenatal Yoga

Prepare your body and mind for labor and the adventure of raising a newborn. Prenatal Yoga helps you adjust to your growing belly and changing body while relieving the discomforts of pregnancy. All postures are modified specially for mothers-to-be; strengthen while relieving tension. Take advantage of yoga to strengthen your mind and stabilize your mood to prepare you for this special time.

These classes embrace first-time mothers and experienced mothers, new students to yoga and experienced students of yoga. Eat something light one hour before class. Wear layered clothing and bring water and a snack with you. ​

Restorative Yoga & Crystal Bowls

Classical Restorative Yoga poses soothe your nervous system while the healing vibration of crystal singing bowls quiet your mind, rejuvenate your body, bring calming balance to your nervous system, and awaken your connection to your higher self—all within moments. This combination creates a remarkable sense of well-being and peace. Explore Nāda Yoga a respected and time-honored method of healing. All levels are welcome.

Tantra Hatha Yoga

Using the traditional poses of Hatha Yoga as a foundation, Tantra yoga practice includes pranayama, bandha, kriya, mudra, mantra, meditation as well as subtle body practices pertaining to kundalini awakening. Tantra’s core principle asserts that through self-knowledge and the cultivation of our innate power, we can unfold our fullest potential and thus achieve both worldly and spiritual prosperity.

Sunrise Yoga - Infrared Heat

Give yourself an advantage all day through with this energizing Hatha Yoga practice that focuses on strength, alignment, and breath. Our therapeutic grade infrared heat provides improved flexibility and relief from minor aches and pains. Get up on the right side of the bed with Prana Yoga Center. All levels welcome!

Vinyasa Flow 1 - Infrared Heat

Vinyasa Yoga, an active practice, synchronizes breath with movement creating a seamless flow from posture to posture. Creatively sequenced, our Vinyasa Flow 1 class features movement and mindful holds using sun salutations, twisting, back-bending, and inversions. After this purifying activity, awaken and connect to your subtle energy body with pranayama (breath/energy work) and meditation. To enhance your experience, Vinyasa classes are taught in infrared heat set to a therapeutic level of 80 to 85 degrees. Therapeutic grade infrared heat promotes improved flexibility, relaxation, and relief from minor aches and pains. This class is idea for students seeking a strong, movement-based practice.

For the best experience, we recommend completion of our Beginner’s Yoga class and knowledge of the sun salutations before attending Vinyasa Flow 1.

Vinyasa Flow 1-2 - Infrared Heat

Vinyasa yoga combines breath and movement with smooth transitions from posture to posture. Take the basics taught in our Vinyasa Flow 1 class and apply them to a more advanced practice. Midway between level 1 and level 2, this class exposes you to a wider range of poses, creative transitions, and a more dynamic pace. Increase the power and fluidity of your Vinyasa yoga practice.

Vinyasa classes are taught in infrared heat set at 80 to 85 degrees, a therapeutic grade. Therapeutic grade infrared heat improves flexibility and relaxation, and gives relief from minor aches and pains.

New to yoga?​ First attend our beginner’s class, in order to be acquainted with the basics of yoga before coming to Vinyasa Flow 1-2. ​​Knowledge of the sun salutations is recommended. We want you to have the best experience possible.

Yoga with Weights - Infrared Heat

Yoga with weights is a strong, mindful vinyasa flow style class that uses light hand weights to build muscle strength, sculpt and tone the upper body.  Yoga with Weights is taught in our infrared heated studio at 80 degrees. Some yoga is experience is helpful.

Appropriate for students of all levels who want a challenge.
